We provide reasonable administrative, technical security measures in place to protect your personal information. However, despite of any our efforts, no security systems are 100% effective so we cannot warrant the security of your personal information.
What are cookies? Why do we use them?
A cookie, also known as browser/web cookie, is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored on a user's computer while the user is browsing web. We use them to identify you and let you access your account data.
Error reporting and session recording
When something goes wrong on the site, a report is sent to Sentry, an error-tracking service we use to find and fix faults. A report contains the technical details of the failure — the page, the browser, the error and where in our code it happened. It does not contain your name, your email address or the contents of anything you sent us, because we have switched those off.
With your consent we also record a small sample of browsing sessions through the same service: about one session in twenty, plus any session in which an error occurs. A recording captures what was clicked, what was scrolled and which pages were visited. It does not capture what you type or what you read: every piece of text on the page and every character entered into a form is masked before the recording leaves your browser, and images and video are blocked. We cannot read your typing tests, your password or your messages in a recording, and neither can Sentry.
Session recording only happens if you accepted analytics in the cookie banner. If you declined, or have not chosen yet, nothing is recorded. You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer; recording stops immediately.
Sessions on child accounts and in kids mode are never recorded, whatever the parent has consented to for their own account. Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) processes this data on our behalf in the United States under a data processing agreement, keeps it for a limited retention period and then deletes it.

Do we comply with COPPA?
The Typing Cat is not directed to children under 13, and a child cannot create an account here on their own. Our sign-up requires you to be 13 or older.
A child under 13 can only be on The Typing Cat through a child account, which a parent or guardian creates from inside their own account and controls from their parent dashboard. Creating one is the parent giving us their consent, and they can see everything the child does, change what the child can reach, and delete the account and its data at any time from that dashboard or by emailing us.
For a child account we ask for a first name and an avatar picked from a fixed set of cartoon icons, and nothing else: no email address of the child’s own, no date of birth, no photograph and no contact details. Child accounts have no public profile, cannot message anyone, are never shown advertising and are never session-recorded. Where a school buys accounts for its students, the school acts for the parents under the same arrangement.
